On the 15th of June 2019, the first Russian-Italian Gnatology Forum took place at the conference room in the Grand Marriott Hotel Moscow.

About one hundred dentists participated in the forum. We are especially glad to note that the participants did not only arrive from Moscow, but also from St Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Stavropol, Nalchik, Ekaterinburg and Novosibirsk.

Unique and fantastic lectures by Prof. Carlo Di Paolo, Prof. Ettore Accivile and manual therapist and docent Valeria Ferrara from Sapienza University of Rome raised a great interest from the Russian dentists.
Our Italian colleagues shared their 30-year experience of treating patients with dysfunction and temporomandibular pain. Particular attention in the lectures was given to importance of thorough amnesias and examination of patients. On the basis of just this examination, the studying of characteristic "clicks" and "noises" of dysfunction and temporomandibular pain, thorough study of origin and span of dysfunctions and disorders, our colleagues form 2-3 diagnoses.

One characteristic difference in the approach of Italian collegiate gnatology school is the absence of need to use expensive additional treatment methods.
Being the authors of clinical recommendations of treating dysfunction and temporomandibular pain for the Italian Ministry of Healthcare, our respected lecturers emphasise that every dentist, whatever the field of study, should poses knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of dysfunction and temporomandibular pain. The treatment itself has to be of non-invasive and reversible character.

Professor told the participants of the forum, that in the process of their professional and academic practice they went from daily surgical interventions in cases of dysfunction and temporomandibular pain at the beginning of their careers, through reconstructive orthodontic or orthopaedic treatment in the 90s, until today, having arrived at those non-invasive and reversible treatment methods for dysfunction and temporomandibular pain.

Presenting the event and topic from the Russian side, Prof. Alexander Ryakhovskiy, has told everyone about his programme Avantis 3D; one of its functions is the ability to create gnathological apparatuses. This kind of digital instruments in a symbiosis with knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of the dysfunction will allow doctors from all over the country to help and treat patients with dysfunction and temporomandibular pain.

It was a great honour to see among the participants not only young dentists. But also leading specialists in Russian dentistry: Prof. Ospanova G.B, Prof. Arsenina O.I., Prof. Antonic M.M., Canditate of Medical Sciences Luganskiy V.A. Prof. Bulycheva E.A.

This event gave a start to a big educational program and long-term cooperation with professors of postgraduate department of gnatology of Sapienza University of Rome.
